Descriptions

The Works comprise the initial phases of the redevelopment of an existing brown field site to provide a new container terminal facility. The development site, which consists of approximately 17.5 ha of reclaimed land, was created for an alternative use but that project was never completed. Sections 1 and 2 of the container terminal project will include the design and construction of new quay walls and quayside apron slab with associated fendering and mooring equipment to form a berthing pocket, piled dolphin to either side of the berthing pocket entrance, piled perimeter walls, earthworks to reduce the level of approximately 8 ha of land on the site and to backfill the area behind the new quay walls and the dredging of an approach channel to facilitate vessel access to the berthing pocket. In order to create the new works the stability and integrity of a number of existing structures will require to be maintained while other structures will require to be demolished.
