The University is looking to purchase an on-line solution for managing the process associated with DBS applications.The University currently operates a decentralised process whereby policy and procedural guidance is provided from Student Services and individual applicant/student checks are carried out manually by the relevant department (mainly academic departments).The University has recently completed a review of the approach to criminal records checking relating to students (including applicants). This review considered matters such as compliance/risk, economies of scale, policy familiarity, process efficiency, customer service and the potential for outsourcing.The review project concluded in July 2013 and one outcome was the agreement to use an electronic system for processing DBS applications, with this new system to be in place for the 2014-15 admissions cycle.
