Dock Civils Works and The Installation of both Temporary and Permanent new Dock Gates, North End Shipyard, river Hull, Kingston Upon Hull

Descriptions

The works required for this procurement are dock civils and dock gate works at the North End Shipyard, River Hull, Kingston Upon Hull. The works required will be in two stages:- (i) initial works to install a temporary dock gate arrangement to make the North End Shipyard site safe, and dry, to enable ongoing works to the site as part of Hull's 'Maritime Project' to continue; (ii) following berthing in the North End Shipyard of the restored Arctic Corsair trawler (to be dry docked by the shipwright under a separate contract), which will become a permanent fixture and visitor attraction, the dock will require works to install a solid wall, to permanently and safely seal the North End Shipyard as a dry dock. Stage One: Emergency Works - This stage relates to the works required to stop the current leak in the dock and create a temporary stop-log gate. The summary items to be delivered are: 1.For safety and to ensure a safe working environment in the dock, a remote movement monitoring system is installed on the existing gate. This will monitor deflection and movement under cyclic tidal induced hydrostatic loading. 2.Existing gate is temporarily repaired to stop the leaks and make the dock watertight. 3.Contractor design of stop logs undertaken and logs procured. 4.Dock cheeks are reinforced and repaired to strengthen the structures in preparation of the construction of the stop-log gate. 5.Steel guides are fitted on dock cheeks to allow for stop-logs installation. 6.Dock sill is modified to provide suitable foundation for the installation of the stop logs. 7.Marine Plant is brought into the river and used to install the stop-logs. 8.Stop-log gate is checked for watertight integrity, and seals between logs are suitably repaired and/or made good. Stage Two: This stage relates to the works required to facilitate the docking of the Arctic Corsair and seal the gate with a permanent solution. The summary items to be delivered are: 1.The dock wall is repaired and reinforced where necessary; 2.The river bed in front of NESY is dredged to facilitate dry-docking of the Arctic Corsair. 3.Historic dock gate is demolished, removed and scrapped. 4.Before the dry-docking operation, Marine Plant is brought into the river and used to lift the stop-logs out of the gate and temporarily positioned on a barge. 5.Timber sleepers are inserted in the steel guides. 6.Following the dry-docking of the Arctic Corsair, Marine Plant is used to reinstall the stop-logs and erect the gate. 7.Stop-log gate is suitably sealed and made safe in preparation for permanent sealing. 8.A permanent dock wall is constructed behind stop logs, sealing the gate and making it watertight and structurally sound. This will be a reinforced concrete solution, to be cast in-situ.
