The Welsh Blood Service has a requirement to retain access to documents or document images over extended periods (up to 40 years). Media storage is currently provided in CD format (a master copy and a working document) and storage of some original hard copy documents.The number of image scans over a period of 12 months can be up to 800,000 and approximately 100 boxes of documents to be held in storage at any one time. This figure is likely to fluctuate over the year.We are keen to explore alternative media storage methods,any media proposal must be secure, enduring and capable of readily being retrieved and read. Storage facilities will also be required for documents of poor quality that cannot be transferred to image but nonetheless must be kept for a number of years. Storage facilities must be secure, enduring and capable of being retrieved efficiently.There will be a requirement to implement a system to transfer data from storage media approaching end of life to a newer storage media system.
