Descriptions
The main objectives are; - Promoting and publishing good practice advice on woodland management for dormice. - Co-ordinating the reintroduction programme for dormice, aiming to restore dormice to their historical range and enhancing the existing population. This includes working with the Institute of Zoology and the Dormouse Captive Breeders Group to ensure health checks are carried out and there are adequate numbers of suitable animals for release. - Maintaining and enhancing the National Dormouse Monitoring Programme (NDMP), reporting on findings and providing national trend data for Article 17 reporting under the Habitats Directive. Maintaining a national inventory of dormouse sites and ensuring data is available through the NBN Gateway. - Communicating with volunteer groups and monitors on a regular basis. - Providing training opportunities for volunteers, land managers and partner organisations so that skills for biodiversity monitoring and recording are maintained.
