This Contract Notice relates to the proposed Dwr-y-Felin Comprehensive School site amalgamation.The Comprehensive School currently operates as a split site school with the lower school in the Longford area of Neath approximately one mile from the upper site. An amalgamation on the upper site is proposed due to the poor condition of the current lower school buildings. To enable this, new accommodation will have to be provided at the upper site in the form of a new build, standalone, teaching block.The accommodation will consist of 8 standard classrooms, 6 I.T rooms, drama class and hall facility with ancillary rooms and accommodation. External works will include new car parking and the construction of a new hard landscaped courtyard.It is the intention the building will achieve a BREEAM excellent rating and will have a full sprinkler system. It is thought at this stage that the building will be heated via ground source heat pumps and will also incorporate rainwater harvestingThe anticipated start date for the construction project is September 2010, with a completion date of Easter 2012.Procurement is viewed as a key driver for delivering the Authority’s sustainable development commitments.
