IntroductionCadwyn Clwyd Cyfyngedig working in partnership with the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley AONB and wishes to appoint a consultant to write an Action Plan for the Vale of Edeyrnion.The role of the consultant is to work with the steering group to review ‘The Vale of Edeyrnion – Outdoor Leisure and Tourism Strategy’ Phase 1 and 2 documents and create a realistic and attainable action plan. The coordinator will be required to engage with key stakeholders to align the current and future work of the project with local, regional and national policies, initiatives and funding opportunities.BackgroundThe Vale of Edeyrnion currently provides a variety of opportunities for outdoor leisure and tourism but lacks an overarching regionally led strategy and action plan. The area therefore does not fully embrace the existing activities nor does it easily attract further inward investment. Together the group has identified the need to develop and market strategically the tourism and associated services offered with the area. The objective they have identified is to develop an offer that will deliver year round profitable income to businesses in the study area including the tourist, retail and hospitality sectors.Two reports have been commissioned to date;Phase 1 – identified baseline data so that the existing tourism market within the study area could be better understood. Phase 1 objectives were to;•Quantify existing tourism and tourism related activity and its socio-economic impact;•Identify all opportunities or unique selling points of/in the area;•Identify and quantify all barriers to tourism in the area; and•Identify and quantify all current or future threats to tourism in the area.Phase 2 – inform the development of a medium to long term strategy for the local tourism sector based on the information contained within the phase 1 report. The phase 2 objectives included;•Identifying opportunities for strategic development that add future value to the area•Exploring the potential for a brand identity for the area that allows competition with brands such as Snowdonia National Park.•Scope a range of mitigation strategies for the threats and challenges identifiedPurpose of the RoleBased on Phase 1 and 2 Reports develop a clear strategic action plan for tourism and other associated activities in the Vale of Edeyrnion.Consult and work closely with tourism businesses and communities located in the vale and produce an action plan that enhances the economy of the area and ensure that they have widespread support.Develop the capacity for collaborative working within key representative organisations in the vale, ensuring that all projects will enhance the natural facilities for the benefit of visitors and residents alikePresent the Action Plan to a meeting of stakeholders, including local businesses in order to promote its implementationCore TasksEngage with key stakeholders to align this project with local, regional and national policies, initiatives and funding opportunities including but not exclusively;•Carolyn Brindle – Economic and Business Development Officer•Peter McDermott – Team Leader, Tourism, Marketing & Events•Helen Mrowiec – Senior Recreation Officer•Ros Stockdale – Regional Routes Warden•Steve Layt – Corwen Walking Festival•Richard Denman – The Tourism Company•David Shiel – Senior Countryside Officer•Howard Sutcliffe – AONB Officer•Dewi Davies – Tourism Partnership North WalesWork with stakeholders to devise and develop sustainable projects.Identify funding sources for identified projectsDesirable AttributesExperience•Experience of developing funding bids for businesses•Experience of basic contract management•Experience of working with community groups•Experience of engagementKnowledge, Skills and Abilities•Knowledge of funding sources•Ability to bring businesses together to cooperate•Competent IT skills including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, website management and social media.•Good interpersonal skills and communication skills, both written and oral•Ability to communicate in Welsh (desirable)Essential Requirements•Current driving licence and access to a vehicle•Prepared to work in the evening and on weekendsDeliverables1.Completed Action Plan in electronic format compatible with Microsoft Word.2. Extensive engagement with Key Stakeholders identified in specification.The successful applicants will instigate their duties w/c 1st September 2014 through to w/c 13th October 2014. This is a 7 week period. A working day is considered to be 8 hours long.
