Emergency Spill Response Service
Descriptions
This contract is for the provision of emergency oil pollution response/spill response and associated environmental services. The land currently covered by South Tees Site Company Limited is approximately 650 hectares. In addition to the oils and chemicals currently stored on site, pipeline containing substances such as heavy fuel oil run from one end of the site to the other also crossing into third party land. While there is no farming or local population in the direction of the prevailing wind that could be affected by gasses generated by a chemical spill, the sites proximity to the River Tees means that a major spill could have significant environmental consequences if it is able to reach surrounding watercourses. Furthermore, STSC remains a top-tier COMAH site and as such there is a requirement from the Competent Authority for these regulations (the Environment Agency and the Health & Safety Executive) that an appropriate out-of-hours response can be secured in the event of an incident.
