European Marrow Donor Information System (EMDIS).

The BBMR is part of an international network of registries linked electronically via EMDIS that allows automated worldwide searches of the registry and message exchange. EMDIS is linked to the Hematos database via Prometheus, a piece of software developed for registries worldwide by Steiner Ltd. and implemented by BBMR in May 2011. Cord blood units are registered on the BBMR and the inventory of adult unrelated donors and cord blood unit donations can be searched using the EMDIS system. Since the BBMR connected to EMDIS, the processing of donor searches are completed electronically and free up current BBMR staff to work on donor contact, sampling and harvest work-up activities which cannot be automated. The connection to EMDIS increases the number of search requests significantly. This means the BBMR donors and cord blood units will be put to the best possible use and will be exposed to the largest number of potential transplant centres. The number of samples requests and final donors provided has gone up by 30 %.The requirement of the tender is to provide a software solution that links NHSBT Hematos database to EMDIS and allows full functionality and compatibility with the EMDIS & EMDIS Cord networks. The solution offered must be a proven system, recognised by WMDA, that is already in day to day use with a Registry or Registries connected to the EMDIS network.
