Evaluation Methodology Training
Descriptions
BIS is responsible for: • working with vocational and higher education providers to give students the skills they need to compete in a global employment market. AIM - This training is designed to up-skill BIS economists, statisticians, social researchers and other analysts in terms of their understanding of evaluation methodology. It is important BIS analysts have sufficient skills and knowledge of impact evaluation methods, in order to demonstrate whether an intervention has a real world impact. In particular, analysts need to know which impact evaluation methods should be applied appropriately for the policy issue at hand. This training should therefore do the following: 1. Put the mechanisms in place so that analysts understand how a particular evaluation method is applied, and when to apply the method. 2. Recognise the potential pitfalls and necessary sensitivity analysis 3. Enhance the ability of analysts to demonstrate the impact of their policies 4. BIS analysts become better customers of contractors and better procurers of impact evaluations. Overall the training should provide analysts with a stronger understanding of the key methodological issues and also provide a common platform for departmental consistency in evaluation.
