Fire Severity Index to trigger fire prevention restrictions on open access land Addendum 001

Descriptions

This contract enables Natural England and Natural Resources Wales to continue to meet their statutory duty to provide fire prevention restrictions under the Countryside and Rights of Way Act (CROW) from April 2015 - March 2018. The Met Office will deliver the Fire Severity Index (FSI) on a daily basis for three years, monitoring delivery of the data to ensure the FSI is fit for purpose, and adapted to reflect improved meteorological data inputs. The Met Office provides Natural England and Natural Resources Wales with a daily Fire Severity Index, which is used to decide when fire prevention restrictions may be necessary to suspend public access under the CROW Act. Natural Resources Wales will contribute 1/8th of the cost of this service directly to Natural England through an annual Memorandum of Agreement.
