Fish is the Dish Education Programme - Swansea Bay

Descriptions

The South & West Wales Fishing Communities (SWWFC) Ltd has identified the Sea Fish Industry Authority (Seafish)Fish is the Dish education pack as a key resource for improving awareness of fish as food amongst primary school children, and encouraging children to eat more fish. The SWWFC Ltd have successfully secured Swansea Bag Fisheries Local Action Group (FLAG) funding (European Fisheries Fund (EFF) to support the delivery of Seafish Fish is the Dish Education pack messages in primary schools across the Swansea Bay (FLAG) area (Swansea, Bridgend and Neath Port Talbot). The Fish is the Dish education pack is a set of cross-curricular lessons and resources developed by Seafish and the British Nutrition Foundation, designed to engage children with fish as a food, different species of fish, fish dishes and the health benefits of eating fish. The education pack focuses on six seafood species commonly landed or harvested in Wales – sea bass, crab, plaice, prawns, mussels and mackerel, representing white fish, shellfish, flat fish and oily fish. Key activities outlined in the pack include making simple fish dishes and tasting different fish. This project will offer primary schools in the Swansea Bay area the opportunity for someone to visit one primary school class (30 pupils max.) and give an interactive local seafood lesson, centred around Seafish Fish is the Dish content. The aim of the local seafood lesson is to give primary school children the chance to learn more about and taste the seafood species common to the Swansea Bay area. Wherever possible, the local seafood will be sourced directly from local fisheries businesses (i.e. local fishermen, wholesalers and fishmongers).Press releases about the EFF-funded project will be produced by Seafish and circulated amongst local and National press. We are looking for:1) An independent, appropriately skilled consultant to develop a ~1.5 hr lesson plan centred around the Fish is the Dish education pack, and support it's delivery through the training of a small project team.2)A small project team of up to four people to deliver the lesson in a selection of schools across the Swansea Bay FLAG area (to be identified by the FLAG).NOTE: To register your interest in this notice and obtain any additional information please visit the Sell2Wales Web Site at http://www.sell2wales.gov.uk/Search/Search_Switch.aspx?ID=26202.
