Flood Alnmouth

Descriptions

FloodAI - Pilot Phase This is a continuation of previous work carried out to develop an AI powered flood warning system.

In March 2021, Northumberland County Council were notified that they had been selected to lead one of 25 national projects from the Environment Agency's (EA) £150m Innovative Flood Resilience Programme. The purpose of the project is to develop a novel flood warning system through the use of smart sensor technology, machine learning and artificial intelligence for rural communities which are isolated from existing systems because of technical and financial constraints. This innovation will be developed and tested in Northumberland, with the vision of being made available nationally and beyond, on completion.

The Alpha phase of the project is expected to finish in March 2025, following which the next stage of the project (the Pilot) phase will commence - although we have chosen to split the phases into different contracts, it is continuation of the same project.
