Childcare, which is free to parents, will be offered to 2 year olds from the term after their second birthday to the term in which they turn 3 years old. Contracts will be awarded for up to 4 years, subject to annual renewal and grant funding being available from Welsh Government. The provision of good quality childcare for children from 2-3 years of age is the centrepiece of service delivered under the Flying Start initiative. The quality childcare provision focuses on children from disadvantaged backgrounds and aims to improve their outcomes in preparation for school and in the long term. Other services include intensive home health visiting, a range of parenting support courses and programmes and early language/language and play activities. The announcement by Ministers to expand the Flying Start service across Wales in 2012/13 and subsequent offer of revenue funding, resulted in Flying Start Carmarthenshire expanding services from it’s original 8 communities to a further 9, reaching a total of 17 communities across the County. Childcare contracts were awarded during the development of the expansion to a mixed model of childcare providers to deliver this service on our behalf. Contracts are now due for renewal from 1st October 2016 in the following areas:In Llanelli town: Bigyn, Felinfoel, Morfa, Lakefield/Copperworks, Llwynhendy/Bynea, Carway (outside Llanelli town),In Ammanford: Betws, Pantyfynnon, Garnant & Glanaman and Richmond Park, in Carmarthen town.If you would like to find out more about the possibility of becoming a Flying Start Childcare Provider we will be holding a Briefing Session in Machynys Golf Club on Saturday, 21st May 2016 at 9.30a.m and finish by 11.30 am (please arrive between 9.00 - 9.30am for registration and refreshments).
