GB-Bristol: SBRI Challenge - Non Destructive Evaluation
Descriptions
Develop an NDE technique with capacitive resitivity imaging (CRI) technology providing the capability to map variations of bulk low-frequency electrical properties within a structure and sensitive to any defects (e.g. cracks and fractures) or alterations (e.g. corrosion) affecting either electrical resistivity or dielectric properties of a material. Develop the NDE technique in the following areas of military exploitation: • In-situ evaluation of structural materials covered by sheathing, cladding, panelling, paint, tiles, flooring, insulating blankets, spray-on sealants or similar; • Detection and monitoring of moisture and/or increased salinity in structural or building materials; • Detection and monitoring of thermal anomalies in structural materials (without direct contact). The work is to be undertaken in accordance with the SBRI application 59098-446144 submitted and held by Innovate UK for the Non-Destructive Evaluation programme. Key deliverables are: 1. Proof of concept that CRI technology is transferable from earth science and can deliver tangible benefits for military NDE; (20/11/2015) 2. A design concept for a highly portable and rapidly deployable CRI sensor array and instrumentation, suitable for in-situ military NDE; (07/12/2015)
