GB-Exeter, Devon: The 2020 Vision-Investing in our Welcome Mechanical & Electrical Engineering Design Services to support a major conservation, reordering & development

Descriptions

Over the last 5 years the team at Exeter Cathedral have produced a comprehensive Masterplan for the Cathedral and its Precinct. This Masterplan addresses all change and development necessary to support the liturgical and activity plans. This first phase of the Masterplan is the '2020s Vision - Investing in our Welcome'. Delivering the 2020s vision will: •Radically improve accessibility within the Cathedral Precinct by providing a new Cloister to connect the Cathedral to the Chapter House and Pearson Cloister Building. •Provide new lighting within the Cathedral and Chapter House to support the activity plan and highlight the historic fabric and artefacts within. •Safeguard the historic fabric by installing a new heating system that focuses on heating the people; not the vast spaces and vaults above. •Safeguard the cathedral's finances by reducing its carbon footprint by installing sustainable building services; low-energy and efficient. •Safeguard the misericords within the Quire for future generations to enjoy and use through repair, access and interpretation. •Support the activity plan by providing essential facilities for the users; comfort, safeguarding and security as well as WC's! •Create more space for exhibition and interpretation within the Cathedral and Cloister; by creating effective storage space and more roofed space! The Dean & Chapter of Exeter Cathedral have been awarded a development grant from the National Heritage Lottery Funding (NHLF) and received permission to start. The next step is to appoint an experienced Mechanical & Electrical Engineer to join the Design Team and progress the capital works to RIBA Work Stage 4. Expressions of interest are sought for this contract at this time.
