GigaPlus Argyll: Next Generation Broadband.
Descriptions
Mull and Iona Community Trust (MICT) is an independent charitable trust, supported by Community Broadband Scotland (CBS) as part of its mission to bring community-led broadband services to areas of Scotland where market failure has occurred. For this project, MICT is acting as the lead procuring authority on behalf of the following seven community groups:— Mull and Iona Community Trust;— Colonsay Community Development Company;— Jura Community Council;— Craignish Community Company;— Lismore Community Council;— Islay Broadband Group;— Isle of Luing Community Council. However, the contracting entity for this procurement is likely to be a new entity called GigaPlus Argyll that is to be set up. That new entity will probably have those community groups as its members (plus potentially some other members).MICT has worked with CBS to identify premises in the Islands of Mull, Iona, Colonsay, Lismore, Jura, Luing and Islay and on the Craignish peninsula that are unlikely to be covered by commercial rollout or by the Digital Scotland Superfast Broadband Project (the ‘GigaPlus Argyll Area’).The desired outcome of the procurement is the appointment of a supplier to provide superfast broadband infrastructure and/or superfast broadband services to premises in the GigaPlus Argyll Area in the most economically advantageous manner.
