Glastir Agri-environment and Forestry Historic Advice

Descriptions

Glastir is an agri-environment and forestry scheme funded by the Rural Development Plan for Wales 2014-2020, which is financed by the Welsh Government and the European Union. Glastir pays for the delivery of specific environmental goods and services aimed at combating climate change; improving the water management; maintaining and enhancing biodiversity; and protecting and managing the historic environment. The scheme is open to farmers and foresters across Wales who wish to undertake Capital Works or area based activities on the holding e.g. planting trees, managing habitat land, maintaining traditional farm buildings and managing historic monuments. The Welsh Government is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified and experienced service providers for the delivery of curatorial and heritage management advice relating to historic environment assets in Wales. The main categories of historic environment assets included in the Glastir scheme include traditional farm buildings, Historic Landscapes, Parks and Gardens and Historic Environment Features (archaeological sites / historic assets). The service provider would have to provide information regarding all known historic environment assets on land included in Glastir applications and would also need to provide guidance on the appropriate management of these assets. The service would need to be provided across Wales and would involve HER appraisals along with an assessment of other relevant sources in addition to some site visits.Advice must be based on an assessment of information and content held within the relevant Historic Environment Record database supplemented by other relevant sources of information (e.g. National Monument Record) as appropriate.Applicants must also demonstrate appropriate experience with heritage management practices and a sound understanding of the potential impacts of agricultural and forestry practices on historic environment assets. The timing of the advice would be dependant on Glastir application windows as well as on an ad hoc basis as required. The ability to provide historic environment advice in the Welsh language both verbally and in writing may also be required. It is not possible to fully determine the amount of work involved within a given period as this would depend on the number and location of applications received. This speculative notice has been published to gauge the level of interest from potential service providers.NOTE: To register your interest in this notice and obtain any additional information please visit the Sell2Wales Web Site at http://www.sell2wales.gov.wales/Search/Search_Switch.aspx?ID=54712.
