Descriptions
Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council is currently preparing plans to develop some of its commercial plots located on The Works Site, Ebbw Vale. The development will consist of business units for light industrial use. One of the proposed development plots is Plot Bus 4, located within the basement park of The Works Site. Given The Works’ mining and industrial history, a site specific ground investigation is proposed to determine the geotechnical and geoenvironmental ground conditions of the site. Whilst the whole of The Works was reclaimed and remediated during the site’s regeneration programme, it was always known that prior to individual plot development a site specific ground investigation would be required.The main works proposed are a ground and mining works investigation that will consist of cable percussive boreholes, trial pits and rotary holes into rock head and coal seams. The purpose of thecontract is to determine the prevailing ground conditions of the plot, identify any sources of ground contamination and ascertain the presence of shallow mine workings and an adit beneath the site.Following the fieldworks, an interpretative report will be provided, detailing the findings of the investigations and, where and if required, providing recommendations on ground treatment.NOTE: The authority is using eTenderwales to carry out this procurement process.
