Descriptions
2. DESCRIPTION AND SCOPE OF THE PROJECT The Authority owns and manages the Headstone Manor Estate. The site has been home to Harrow Museum since the early 1980`s. The Contract will be administered by the Arts & Heritage Service of the Authority It is expected that the role of the contract manager will change in April 2016. A new company has been formed and has applied for charity status. The Authority will novate this s contract to the new company. The aim of the project is to transform Headstone Manor and Museum and the unique 1200 year old heritage site in which it sits; to bring to life the fascinating history of this moated manor and its people, Harrow and its communities. The site comprises four historic buildings with an additional new build: ?The Grade I listed C14th moated Manor House ?The Grade II listed C16th Small Barn ?The Grade II listed C18th Granary. ?The fourth, the Grade II* listed C16th Great Barn has been transformed and is not part of this contract ?Welcome Building - a new build. The Authority has secured Heritage Lottery funding (HLF) to deliver the programme of works and plans to open the new museum in the summer of 2017. The onsite work phase of the project will commence in April 2016. The Manor House - Headstone Manor is an architectural gem nestled amongst the residential suburbs of London Borough of Harrow. A wonderful artefact in itself, the evolution of this Grade 1 listed building is more visible than many other historic buildings with medieval, Tudor, Victorian and Georgian influences made even more intriguing by its location on a moated island. Small Barn - This C16th Small Barn was almost destroyed by fire in the 1970`s. Restored in 1996, will be given a new lease of life. The Granary - this early 19th century cattle feed store was moved from Pinner Park Farm to Headstone Manor in 1991 and will form the new learning spaces for schools and families. New Welcome Building - will have visitor facilities such as cafe, retail and toilets with outdoor seating facilities. Harrow Council is working with the HLF and other partners on a regeneration project to transform Headstone Manor & Museum into a regional heritage attraction and full-time public museum. The programme of Construction Works will include: ?Manor House; complete conservation repairs and replacement of all M&E services ?Small Barn and Granary; construction of new welcome building, ?Installation of platform lift to the Manor House ?Internal and external finishes and decoration ?Ground works and drainage ?Landscaping. Exhibition and Interpretation as well as external signage will be carried out by others
