NIE require the services of an outsourced contractor to patrol overhead lines by helicopter to detect hazards and defects which could affect public safety and network performance. The work required to achieve these objectives will include power line surveys using visual, thermal, corona and other camera inspection. The condition of overhead lines will deteriorate over time and are prone to damage from weather conditions and from third parties.
