How Dangerous is the Business Succession Timebomb? (Business Succession reports)

Descriptions

The Wales Co-operative Centre and Welsh Government wish to commission research and reports on the business succession issues facing businesses in Wales. The reports will focus on two aspects:•the support requirements of the Welsh SME sector in regards to generalist business support around succession planning and implementation, and,•the benefits and opportunities afforded by heightened awareness of, and support for, transforming businesses into employee ownership as part of a planned succession approach. This procurement has three distinct elements:•Market research and analysis using primary and secondary data that examines the demographic and psychographic profiles of businesses and their owners in Wales, their succession aspirations and levels of knowledge of the options available.•A report that maps out the range of existing support packages that are available to support business owners in their succession planning process. This report will seek out the views of key stakeholders on issues around succession planning and gaps in support provision and it will provide recommendations for the most appropriate support packages that can be promoted and delivered through the wider Business Wales service offer.•A report that interprets the data and contextualises it within UK and Welsh devolved economic policy and puts forward practical recommendations as to how employee ownership approaches can be both promoted and employed to the betterment of the Welsh economy. This report will build on the ‘Defusing the Business Succession Time-bomb’ publication released by the Wales Co-operative Centre in 2012 and update it with the new primary and secondary data. It will also update policy, taxation and legislative changes implemented by both Welsh and UK governments.
