Hydrogen Island

Descriptions

Ynys Mon has high renewable energy potential (both onshore & offshore; solar, wind and marine) which is under-exploited.As an alternative to connecting to an electricity grid which may be constrained, primary renewable energy can be used to produce hydrogen via electrolysis. This “green hydrogen” can therefore release the full potential of renewables; while complementing the expansion of biomethane and SNG, the other “green gases”.Ynys Mon Hydrogen Island would provide the framework for the production, storage and use of hydrogen on the island to create a resilient, self-sufficient model for sector coupling at scale. To further develop the vision of Ynys Mon Hydrogen Island we require a feasibility study with a set of initial work packages to include engagement, collection of evidence, identification of projects and reporting.
