Independent review of options for electronic prescribing arrangements in Wales

A review needs to be conducted with regard to the electronic transfer of prescription data in Wales across all health sectors.Welsh Government wishes to standardise the prescription process across all sectors in order to deliver an open prescription platform that is fully interoperable with all Welsh health and care systems. This review will be undertaken urgently and delivered at pace.The budget for the review is £24,999 and bids should not exceed this value.The review undertaken will:•Describe the workflows, needs and requirements for the prescription of medication to Patients, Prescriber, Dispenser and Monitoring Authorities over the prescription life cycle.•Identify and provide detail on the data that is required to prescribe, dispense and audit medication.•Identify any legislative changes needed to allow prescription data to be shared across sectors and processed for both direct patient care and for indirect methods, such as auditing medication use.•Identify what work and commitments have already been undertaken with regard to electronic prescriptions, examining existing EPS proposals and how we can bring these together either iteratively or as a whole from the outset.•To review the interoperability of current NHS Wales platforms, systems and architectures in relation to the capability of providing electronic prescriptions.•The outcome of the review will be:oProduction of a report detailing the findings of the commissioned topicsoRecommendations for actions on the following areas:Where prescription workflows can be standardised and proposed models of standardised workflowsWhat data can be standardised across sectors and proposed models of standardised data set(s) for providing electronic prescriptions across sectors in NHS Wales (for example a standardised medicines catalogue).The review will need to be in a publishable format and made available in both Welsh and English.NOTE: To register your interest in this notice and obtain any additional information please visit the Sell2Wales Web Site at https://www.sell2wales.gov.wales/Search/Search_Switch.aspx?ID=103150.
