Industrial Innovator Research and Development Projects in Advanced Nuclear Technology

Descriptions

This PIN is to inform the supply chain that on behalf of the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and the National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL), Game Changers are inviting proposals from businesses for access to facilities at NNL's Preston Laboratory to undertake research and development projects focussing on advanced nuclear technology. BEIS and NNL will be seeking proposals that explore all potential uses of nuclear technology as part of a low carbon economy. This includes, but is not limited to, research projects investigating: •The use of nuclear technologies in hydrogen production, direct heat for industrial or domestic use, energy storage, chemical synthesis and production of medical isotopes •Technologies that enable the recovery and reuse of radioactive waste material for energy and non-energy use •Technologies that reduce the cost of advanced nuclear systems •Mechanisms of enabling licensing and validation of new technologies •Opportunities to derive additional value from advanced nuclear systems This call will be administered though the Game Changers programme and advertised on their website (https://www.gamechangers.technology/) during September 2020. The challenge is open to any business who feels they can meet the requirements detailed in the call. Interested parties must submit proposals using the Game Changers online application system. The deadline for applications is 12 noon on Thursday 30th September 2021. Interested parties should note that the issue of this PIN may not result in a full procurement exercise being conducted. We would encourage any business which has the relevant capability, knowledge and experience to respond to this PIN to visit the Game Changers website for further information on this Game Changers call for proposals. If BEIS and NNL progress to a future procurement opportunity for research and development projects focussing on advanced nuclear technology, the learning gathered from the Game Changers research and development project may be shared with all potential suppliers, noting that commercially sensitive information will not be included.
