Descriptions
South Western Railway (SWR) are embarking on a programme of upgrades to the Island Line on the Isle of Wight. The works are to be delivered as a Design and Build contract. As part of the works, all current rolling stock will be retired and replaced by new third rail trains supplied by others. A series of infrastructure upgrades will be carried out to accommodate these new trains and additional infrastructure will be added to implement a new, more frequent timetable together with improvements to current equipment to improve reliability.
