Descriptions

The University of Northampton is seeking tenders for a new web-based Library Management System. We are seeking to appoint a contractor who can undertake to supply, implement and maintain a ‘Next Generation’ Library Management System (LMS). This system should offer a unified resource management approach in relation to both online and print resources. It should also offer efficient working solutions to the challenges of inter-operability with other current Library systems and ongoing integration with existing University business systems. The system should comfortably accommodate over 70 library staff (as users) and over 11 000 students. It should have been developed for, and tried and tested in, a Higher Education environment. The University requires that the new LMS exhibits what are now termed and accepted in the HE Library sector as ‘Next Generation’ characteristics. These include:1. A service that is ‘managed’ remotely — all support, maintenance and upgrades are included as part of the contract.2. Unified Resource Management — both digital and physical resources are managed within the system to reflect contemporary practices and operational efficiencies.3. The LMS should offer improved staff workflows that create genuine efficiencies for staff users across the board.4. The LMS should exhibit a high degree of inter-operability with other software products that are essential for the management of students within the University environment e.g. student records system.5. The LMS should automatically offer analytic data as an adjunct to more efficient business practices, both at a day-to-day working level, and a strategic level.6. The LMS should offer integration with the University's existing Resource Discovery Service (Primo from Ex-Libris) and other current Library software services.7. The LMS should offer an Electronic Resource Management function whereby electronic resource ‘trials’, acquisitions, licensing and evaluative data output are standard.8. The service should commit to the use and efficient management of, the highest quality metadata.9. The LMS should also offer flexible, staff and user-friendly, fulfilment functions across a diverse range of resources and library users.Other non-functional requirements are also essential to the contract:1. Migration and implementation of changes.2. Training and support.3. A cohesive roadmap of planned software development.4. Data security.5. Decommissioning of existing LMS.Implementation of the software should commence early 2015 with a ‘Go Live’ date of 1.8.2015.
