South West Mayo Development Company CLG (SWMDC), is seeking suitable, qualified specialist(s) to provide a pilot Training Course in Water-Conservation and Protection (Mayo Communities Caring for Water) to community/voluntary groups and individuals in County Mayo.Local actions which protect and enhance water quality, the ecosystems that are founded on good water quality, and the biodiversity that these ecosystems supports are essential for the successful implementation of the Water Framework Directive as well as fulfilment of the UN Sustainable Development Goals 14, Life under Water, and 15, Life on Land. Building the knowledge base that will enable community/voluntary groups and individuals to take informed actions regarding water conservation is essential. Furthermore, it is envisaged that the themes of water quality, biodiversity and climate change will become more urgent over the time period of the next LEADER programme. In many cases a broad understanding of those themes may not be present within some communities. Completion of bespoke training will help increase understanding and capacity within communities to develop local projects and allow them to take advantage of future LEADER funding. Taking all the above into account, the purpose of this project is to give key community organisations and individuals a good initial understanding of:•How to conserve and protect water.•What constitutes a healthy water body?•How to measure the health of the water body.•Actions to improve and protect the health and amenity value of the water body. This will include awareness raising and training on the ecology of streams, rivers, lakes and other water bodies.
