LIFE N2K Prioritisation of features at a Wales level-Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis

Descriptions

Natura 2000 exists to conserve some of the rarest and most threatened wild habitats and species in Europe. The LIFE Natura 2000 Programme is developing a strategic forward plan to manage and restore Natura 2000 species, habitats and sites in Wales. Working with interested organisations it will identify the key actions required, priorities, costs and funding opportunities. The programme is run by Natural Resources for Wales (Biodiversity and Fisheries Group) and co-funded by the European Union scheme LIFE+ Nature.Natural Resources Wales brings together the work of the Countryside Council for Wales, Environment Agency Wales and Forestry Commission Wales, as well as some functions of Welsh Government. Our purpose is to ensure that the natural resources of Wales are sustainably maintained, enhanced and used, now and in the future. We are the principal adviser to the Welsh Government on the environment, enabling the sustainable development of Wales’ natural resources for the benefit of people, the economy and wildlife.PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES OF CONTRACTThe LIFE Natura 2000 Programme is seeking to identify and agree strategic priorities for the Natura 2000 series in Wales, including those for Natura 2000 (N2K) species and habitat features, that is, Habitats Directive Annex I habitats and Annex II species and Birds Directive Annex I birds and regularly occurring migratory species. The aim is to determine, in the most objective and scientific way possible, which features are of primary importance for Wales, most vulnerable to decline and most in need of urgent management and restoration. This will enable practitioners and decision-makers identify where limited resources can be directed to best effect, and which areas of work to tackle first. For example, which major external funding bids to support with staff time and match funding.NOTE: To register your interest in this notice and obtain any additional information please visit the Sell2Wales Web Site at http://www.sell2wales.gov.uk/Search/Search_Switch.aspx?ID=20051.
