Lothian Health Board - Mandibular Splint Services
Descriptions
Lothian Health Boards Department of Sleep Medicine wishes to set up an unranked framework to provide mandibular splints to patients who suffer from obstructive sleep apnoea. Patients who are referred for mandibular splints will usually have previously encountered difficulties with utilising Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machines. The contract period will run for 2 years from 1st April 2020 to 31st March 2022, with the potential for two 12 month extensions. It is expected that the successful bidder will supply mandibular splints to approximately 180 to 200 patients per annum, during this period. Lothian Health Boards Department of Sleep Medicine provides sleep services to patients within the Lothian area and on behalf of 3 other Health Boards – Borders, Forth Valley and Fife. The patient split being approximately 50% Lothian and 50% for the other 3 boards combined. The required service will involve the initial assessment of patients and the production and fitting of mandibular splints for those patients, referred by the Dept of Sleep Medicine. Typical patients will be adults suffering from Sleep Apnoea Syndrome, who have failed to benefit from CPAP treatment or those patients who are deemed to be unsuitable for CPAP and who have a Body Mass Index of less than 30.
