LSC2208- Fire Safety Improvement Works [FSIW] Palace of Westminster Compartmentation
Descriptions
This contract seeks to consolidate the fire separation of the Palace by repairing or replacing fire doors and associated hardware, furniture, side screens, over panels and glazed elements. There are currently 775 doors included as part of this specification. This is broken down into 522 repairs, 15 replacement door-sets and 4 new door-sets. The remaining 234 doors did not require repairs, however the contractor will be required to survey them as part of this contract so that all fire resisting doors and associated screens, over panels and glazing required to maintain the fire separation strategy of the Palace will be to the specified standard at the completion of the contract. In addition this specification includes conservation works to improve the finish of the doors and associated screens etc. This work includes filling holes & cracks, re-finishing and replacing missing or mismatched hardware and furniture. There is a requirement that as much work as possible is undertaken in the contractor’s workshop and thus requires the door sets to be taken off site. Temporary replacement fire resisting door-sets will need to be installed in order to maintain the integrity of the fire separation of the Palace. The contractor will limited to the number of doors that can be removed from the Palace at any one time; the project team has recommended this should not exceed approximately 20 number. The contractor will need to allow for the transportation of the permanent and temporary doors through the Palace and to and from their workshops.
