Descriptions
The Main Works (principle) contractor is required to deliver Fire Safety Improvement Works to the basement of the Palace of Westminster (PoW) and which consist of: 1. The Design and Installation of fire safety improvement works within the basement of the Palace of Westminster to deliver the key life safety enhancements (as documented in list B of the Parliamentary Fire Safety Strategy) by 2018/19 and deliver the remaining life safety enhancements and additional features to improve property protection and business resilience (list C) by 2019/20. This is all works that is considered necessary to ensure a safe and secure working environment. 2. Supply, manage and implement sectional phased maintenance, final integrated coordinated maintenance regime for all fire safety systems and building works during contract period.The Authority may procure the subsequent ongoing maintenance of a system installed under the Works contract in 1 of the following ways: a) extension of the contract with the Main Contractor responsible for the Works in the first instance; b) novation of the Main Contractors sub-contractor/s; c) carry out further competition under a separate procedure for the purpose of appointing maintenance contractor to maintain systems installed under the Works contract.The basement fire safety project will include the following design and installation works within the Palace of Westminster basement:— Automatic high pressure water mist fire suppression system.— Automatic fire detection system.— Voice alarm and public address annunciation system.— Cable management containment systems.— Emergency lighting and lighting control system— New UK compliant escape signage.— Smoke clearance ventilation systems (post fire).LV electrical power systems serving; fire pumps, emergency lighting, fire detection, alarm systems and smoke ventilation systems equipment.Upgrade existing basement building fabric to form 7 fire compartments.Small electrical power services and provide spatial lighting upgrades to rooms housing smoke vent fan sets, VA/PA equipment, and fire suppression pump sets and tank rooms.Upgrade existing structure and fabric forming fire rated sub-compartments.Fire door restoration, hold open devices and control system.New buried drainage works.Existing and new fire rated sealing to fire safety systems penetrations through fabric and structure.
