The aim of the scheme is to establish and manage vocational opportunities for people with Learning Disabilities in Rhondda Cynon Taf by setting up a commercial enterprise; a Coffee and Craft shop within Talbot Green and Aberdare. Provide a supportive work environment for individuals with learning disabilities who reside in RCT and who, with support, will be the main work force to service the project.The intention of the project is for People with a Learning Disability to prepare light refreshments and snacks that will be sold on the premises to the general public at Talbot Green & Aberdare.The project will employ people with learning disability, and other project staff who will be motivated to support people with learning disability through Edexcel/NPTC qualifications and similar, in a number of areas e.g.:•Food Preparation and Hygiene; •Customer Care; •Health and Safety; •Introduction to Retail; •Communication and Social Skills; •Introduction to Work. •Travel Training Training will be provided to people with learning disability on the premises by project staff and in partnership with local colleges of further education.The project will be expected to provide a minimum of twelve training places for people with a learning disability each year. It expected that a minimum of two paid jobs be created in the first year at Aberdare. At the present time there are three paid jobs in place in Talbot Green. The project will be expected to provide support and training to enable individuals to travel independently, to develop work skills and disciplines, and to develop confidence and self-esteem. The day-to-day management of the project will be through a retail manager who will need to progress and promote relevant commercial skills as well as having a full commitment to the social objectives of the project, and will responsible for both Talbot Green and Aberdare shops. A management agreement/contract will be in place between Rhondda Cynon Taff County Borough Council and the Individual/Organisation. The project will be supported and monitored by a designated Senior Development Officer who will meet will the retail manager on a regular basis(minimum of quarterly intervals) to review progress on performance and activities-please refer to schedule* on performance measures. These meetings will enable any issues or proposals to be discussed. The overall aim of the project, over a period of time, is to be sustainable without additional funding. The potential to achieve this aim will be jointly evaluated within the first two years of the project. If the project is unable to become self-funding within the first two years a re-evaluation will take place.
