Market Engagement Event for RTL045P Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) screening in London - NHS England London Region
Descriptions
NHS England (London Region) would like to invite providers to attend a Market Engagement Event which will inform the market of the intentions to procure AAA Screening Programme(s) in London. With the current contracts coming to an end it is necessary to re-commission this service. Public Health Section 7a Commissioning Intention supports the ambitions to improve health outcomes, tackle inequalities and secure best value for money. It is with these intentions that Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) Screening Programmes in London will be re-procured. The AAA Screening Programme (AAASP) aims to reduce AAA related mortality by providing a systematic population-based screening for the male population during their 65th year and, on request, for men over 65. A simple ultrasound test is performed to detect AAA. The scan itself is quick, painless and non-invasive and the results are available straight away. A result letter is also sent to all patients’ GPs. Men with a screen detected aneurysm of 5.5 cm and above are referred into the vascular centre for surgery whilst those with aneurysms measuring between 4.5 and 5.4 cm are put on quarterly surveillance; those with aneurysms measuring between 3 and 4.4 cm are recalled for surveillance on an annual basis. NHS England currently commissions five providers in London. The current screening cohort is approximately 34,440, with 726 men with screen detected aneurysms between 3 cm and 4.4 cm recalled for annual surveillance 113 men, with aneurysms of 4.5 to 5.4 cm recalled quarterly. The programmes provide administration, screening and surveillance, and they refer screen detected cases that require treatment to their local vascular centre based in an acute Trust. Each programme is linked to a vascular network and each of these networks has a vascular centre. The administration, screening and surveillance part of the services will be re-procured and the vascular networks and their vascular centres will remain unchanged. The Provider(s) will be expected to: •Reflect the needs of the population of London and provides robustness to ensure continuity of care, equity of service, and provide better value for money. •Ensure that the service is delivered in line with the Public Health England Section 7a service specification No. 23. •Address issues that have been identified during the operation of the programme and to create a service that: •Provides a single point of contact with the service for all men across London •Builds more resilience into the service •Provides career progression and professional development •Improves screening coverage •Has clearly defined governance and leadership within the programme The Market Engagement Event will take place on the 31st March 2016 at: Holiday Inn London, Bloomsbury, Coram Street, London WC1N 1HT from 10.00-12.00
