Martins Pond Biodiversity Works (CPU 3202)
Descriptions
Martin's Pond is designated as a Local Nature Reserve (LNR) believed to be the first site designated as such in Nottinghamshire over 40 years ago. Nestled in amongst a houses and allotments in Wollaton, Martin's Pond is a hidden gem along with the adjacent Harrisons Plantation Local Nature Reserve. In Nottingham, 14 sites have been designated as LNR's forming part of our valuable open space network. The site supports open water, channel, marsh and swamp, wet woodland and an array of birdlife, mammals and invertebrates. There is an active community group called the Friends of Wollaton Local Nature Reserves, who formed around 14 years ago. They carry out regular work parties and day to day activities. The project aims to enhance the access to biodiversity of Martin's Pond for the local community and encourage visitors to learn about the sites' wildlife. This tender is made up of two Lots and tenderers may bid for one or both Lots. Each Lot will be evaluated individually using the responses submitted by the tenderers for that Lot. Funding approval is expected by March 2019 with works starting at the beginning of May 2019. All works for Lot Two must be completed by the end of August 2019. Works for Lot One will start at the beginning of May 2019 and must be completed by the end of August 2019 with the exception of the boardwalk and viewing platform where construction will take place during winter 2019/20 to avoid harm to nesting birds.
