The National Botanic Garden of Wales has HLF and other funding to undertake the delivery phase of a project to restore the Regency waterpark within the parkland of the Middleton Hall estate. The parkland is included in the Cadw/ICOMOS Register of Parks and Gardens of Historic Interest in Wales.The Garden is seeking an archaeological contractor to undertake a programme of archaeological investigation in order to fulfil the requirements of the condition placed on Planning Consent for the parkland restoration. The Written Scheme of Investigation setting out the requirements to fulfil the condition includes:-- Interrogation of Cartographic, Photographic and Lidar Resources:- Archaeological Evaluation:- Interim Reporting:- Preservation in Situ Protection and Monitoring:- Archaeological Investigation and Recording Mitigation:- Post-Excavation Analysis:- Publication:- Archiving:- Volunteer engagement and training (an essential part of the works).The excavation team must have relevant knowledge, experience and qualifications to conduct fieldwork related to the investigation and interpretation of historic parkland, particularly 16th/17th century parkland and 18th/19th century parkland in Wales. The excavation director should be a Member of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists. All archaeological works should be undertaken to CIfA standards and carried out in line with MoRPHE guidelines (Management of Research Projects in the Historic Environment, Historic England, re-issued 2015).
