This project will evaluate the impacts of lowland heathland management funded by the Higher Level Stewardship Scheme (HLS) on the habitats of European protected reptiles in England. The species concerned are the sand lizard (Lacerta agilis) and smooth snake (Coronella austriaca), both of which are listed on Annex IVa of the Habitats Directive and, as such are afforded strict protection in the UK by the Conservation of Habitats and Species Regulations 2010.
