Descriptions
County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest integrated care providers in England, serving a population of 600 000 people. The Trust are looking to work with a supplier to deliver pureed meals with the following descriptors that have been developed by the National Patient Safety Agency (Dysphagia Diet food Texture Descriptors April 2011) and in line with BDA guidelines. Descriptors detail the types and textures of foods needed by individuals who have oropharyngeal dysphagia (swallowing difficulties) and who are at risk of choking or aspiration (food or liquid going into the airway) B — Thin puree diet, C — Thick puree diet, D — Pre-mash diet, E — Fork mashed diet. The Trust is looking for individual frozen complete meals which may include but are not limited to: Textured modified and reshaped, Nutritionally balanced, Diverse menu choice, Appealing both visual and taste, Shape retention when heated to 75oc. Predominantly the Trust will be looking for descriptor C — thick puree with 2 portion sizes available. The Trust has a requirement for a wide range of different meal and desert options to ensure the patients choices are met.
