Bring you Village AliveA project to enhance rural conservation areas through information, consultation and support for physical improvements.Working in selected Conservation Areas, the project would use the Conservation Area Appraisals commissioned by Monmouthshire County Council (2009/10) to encourage and support local people to follow low-cost conservation methods appropriate to local heritage features. The project would offer: a project officer to work with selected Conservation Areas in eligible wards to build awareness of conservation principles in use of materials, colours, techniques, etc. to reflect the language and function of existing buildingsDissemination of results to other conservation areas with advice on other grant schemes to increase the influence and leverage of the project.An umbrella small grants scheme (match funded by owners and community groups) to improve the physical environment of villages and conserve rural heritage; Sense of RootsTo enable communities to participate in their own history through related events, oral histories and interpretation to bring to life Monmouthshire’s rich agricultural and industrial heritage and culture, supported by a part time project officer.Local groups carrying out research into particular local history, local heritage features buildings and landscapes.Interpretation provision to encourage intellectual access to the historical and cultural heritage. A community based events and environmental programme demonstrating and reconnecting with local traditions, heritage and culture to build local support and commitment to the maintenance and restoration of local heritage and landscapes.Physical Improvements to conserve and enhance local heritage and landscapes.
