Motor Gunboat 81.

Descriptions

MGB 81, built by the British Powerboat Company in 1942, had a top speed of 42 knots. She is an irreplaceable British Maritime heritage asset.Physical Works — MGB 81 is suffering from severe hull degradation as her timber construction is now 75 years old. A recent survey has indicated in her current state she should only be used for ‘light use’. Work to return her to an ‘as new’ condition requires specialist shipwrights capable of working in timber and with great versatility. The proposal is to fit 3 new engines which will reduce fuel consumption by 50 % and provide future operational reliability, This is specialist work and will need to be supplied by a high quality and extensively equipped provider. In order to access the engine room, she will need to be partially dismantled and reassembled. During these works, her interior will be fully restored and upgraded with a pressurised water system and galley facilities for her crew, enabling use on longer voyages.
