The FCW intends to award a contract for the construction of:Approximately 2km of single track pre-designed red graded mountain bike trail, built as an extension to the existing ‘Wall’ trail with steep and tough gradients and technical trail features such as berms, rollers, rocks, medium steps, drop-offs, cambers and water crossings.Approximately 3km of pre-designed red graded mountain bike trail upgrade of the ‘Wall’ trail.Approximately 3km of pre designed mountain bike skills trails that create a skills area/ bike park which includes intermediate and advanced level technical features such as berms, drop-offs, tabletop and roller double jumps and rock and timber features.The contractor will be required to carry out trail corridor clearance including tree felling, carry out ground works to create the trail formation and transport and lay large quantities of crushed stone aggregate all to the required specifications set out in the design and to meet the trail grading. The construction carried out needs to provide a fully armoured and sustainable surface to IMBA standards Track side drainage to be undertaken as required, to reduce any risk of future pot-holing Design work for the trail corridors is currently being progressed by a competent trail design company as the main trail designer. The trail designer will guide and supervise the trail construction in outline but contractors will be expected to be able to follow the specification.The detailed Bill of Quantities are currently being finalised. The successful bidder must be registered under the HMRC CIS scheme.The successful bidder will be the principal contractor operating under CDM 2007 regs.The project is a partnership project and is part-funded by the EU's Convergence European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government with match funding coming from the Welsh Government and partner organisations. Forestry Commission Wales (FCW) will enter into an Institute of Civil Engineering, New Engineering Contract (NEC), Option B (Priced Contract with BOQ) with the successful bidder for the supply of these services.
