MUGA
Descriptions
The design, supply and construction of a MUGA on the site of the old village tennis court in Great Gransden public Recreation Ground. All elements must as a minimum meet national standards and be covered by warranty. Specification for Multi Use Games Area Location: On the site of the current village tennis court (approximate size 35m by 16.8m) Access Via Fox Street (gate at side of Reading Room), through a restricted shared driveway and small parking area. The adjacent Bowls Club have and will continue to need access. Facilities: There are no public toilet facilities in the area. There is a local convenience store and Post Office on the same street. There is a small off-road parking area. There is no power, lighting or water on site. The MUGA like other facilities in the Recreation Ground, will be for free unsupervised use by villagers of all ages, both with their various activity clubs and as individuals with family or friends. It will therefore need to be attractive, robust, able to withstand the weather and require minimal maintenance. As the public recreation area is unsupervised and used by unaccompanied children, all installation personnel must either be DBS checked or under the close supervision of a suitable supervisor at all times. Design: Surface: should be of porous tarmac, such that water will not sit and puddle the surface. Please make clear the exact specification of the playing surface e.g. thickness of macadam, any base course (if needed) and edgings. It should be marked out for: football, netball and tennis plus have a "D" at each end for basketball. Tennis sockets: The tennis net and posts must be easy to remove and reassemble. Net posts must not leave an uncovered hole or a protruding cover when removed. A safe weather proof storage for net and posts must be provided on the outside of the fence. Fencing: the perimeter fencing must be a colour suitable for the rural surroundings, must not exceed 4m at any point but should be of sufficient height to avoid causing problems for other users of the recreation ground. The fencing should be of 4m height at goal ends and 3m height either side. No element should have any rough edges or dangerous protrusions and ideally be of a design which makes climbing difficult. Recessed goals: there should be recessed goals at both ends. Access: There should be open access points (not wheelchair accessible) at each goal mouth, and open access midway on one side with separate fence overlapping the gap at a sufficient distance to allow wheelchair access at this point with hard standing. To include as standard: 2 basketball nets attached to fence at each end. 2 sunken sockets for tennis court nets plus net and posts. Colour spray to surface of the MUGA. Extras (separate cost): Corners of MUGA to have rounded fencing. 2 sunken sockets for netball posts. Maintenance costs to include recommended maintenance regime.
