Descriptions

Overview of the ProgrammeSkillset, the Sector Skills Council for Creative Media (which comprises TV, film, radio, interactive media, animation, computer games, facilities, photo imaging, publishing, advertising and fashion & textiles) is the strategic body, licensed by government and endorsed by industry, to develop the skills, training and education policy for the Creative Media Industries. Skillset Cymru, the Welsh arm of the council, is tasked with taking forward Skillset’s work within a Welsh context.Skillset Cymru has secured funding support from the European Social Fund (ESF) via the Welsh European Funding Office (WEFO) to deliver the Skills for the Digital Economy Programme. This programme seeks to develop and deliver flexible, industry-led, high level skills provision which meets the needs of Creative Media employers and freelancers working in West Wales and the Valleys, supporting the knowledge economy and safeguarding the performance and productivity of the sector in these regions. These regions include the unitary authorities of Isle of Anglesey, Conwy, Denbighshire, Gwynedd, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire, Swansea, Neath Port Talbot, Bridgend, Rhondda Cynon Taff, Merthyr Tydfil, Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly and Torfaen. Please note that as a condition of the funding, this programme is not pan-Wales in scope and focuses entirely on supporting the Creative Media workforce in West Wales and the Valleys, where GDP per head in these regions is 7% lower than the European average. For participants to be eligible, they must live or work within these areas. For further guidance on eligibility, please refer to Section 3 of the Delivery Guidelines for Training Providers 2011).Tender SpecificationMulti-camera directing has been identified as a skills shortage by the industry in West Wales and the Valleys. Industry has identified the need for a small cohort, made up of existing Directors or new individuals with demonstrable talent, to attend an intensive week’s training whereby they are given real grounding in technique and approach. Mock-up situations will be set up so the cohort can feel free to explore and innovate under the guidance of an experienced team. This intensive week will also include seminars with inspirational speakers. In addition to the week’s intensive training, these individuals will be offered mentoring and secondment opportunities at high volume events broadcast in Wales. The selected provider will work with the Welsh Language broadcaster S4C and with the independent production sector in Wales to identify big event programmes and map the year out so that the cohort worked on different Productions with different mentors across Wales. The selected provider will monitor the cohort’s progress and offer additional coaching throughout the mentoring/secondment process. This programme must create a real step-up for the individual. As well as developing the technical capabilities of the individual, the focus is on raising aspiration and encouraging creative and innovative thinking.Skillset is looking for 5 trainees to benefit from this training.
