N72 Stagmount Bends R.I.S. - The N72 Stagmount Bends Road Improvement Scheme

Descriptions

The N72 Stagmount Bends Road Improvement Scheme involves the construction of a realigned section of roadway approximately 1.2km in length commencing 6.5km west of Rathmore, in the townland of Gortnahaneboy West and terminating approximately 1.2km further east in the townland of Gortnahaneboy East, Rathmore, Co. Kerry. The existing section of road has a single carriageway cross-section without hard-shoulders and has both a poor horizontal and vertical alignment due to the fact that it is a legacy route and therefore has no definedgeometric design. The proposed road type is a type 2 single carriageway. It is proposed to bypass part of the existing N72 and that will become part of the local road network. It is proposed that the bypassed section can be used as a suitable route for pedestrians and cyclists. A dedicated pedestrian and cycle facility is proposed on one side of the carriageway at each end of the scheme creating a link to the bypassed section.
