The application of nematode solution to tree stumps on restocking coupes prior to restocking.In order to reduce the use of chemical pesticides, Natural Resources Wales uses beneficial nematodes in the defence against Large Pine Weevil damage to young trees. The microscopic nematodes are applied to stumps to infect the Hylobius abietis larvae, reducing the emergent adult population and minimising fatal damage to planted trees.This application must take place during May, June, July and August in order to infect the larvae, before they pupate and emerge as adults.
