Cadw is seeking to appoint an Principal Contractor with previous experience working on Scheduled Ancient Monuments to concurrently carry out five distinct parcels of work at Caerphilly Castle.In broad terms, the works involve:-The manufacture and installation of new metal railings to stone steps, battlements and flagstones, consequential stone conservation, electrical re-wiring and relamping and the conservation of and decoration to internal lime plasterwork. The scope also includes the supply and installation of a made-to-measure metal frame and the insetting and fixing of steel mesh panels to provide a level walk-wayThe manufacture and installation of new metal railings and access walkway to bridge a gap to the Inner Ward Wall-walk, including for decoration to the new metalwork and consequential conservation of stoneworkThe Laser scanning (to accurately record masonry ‘Tumbles’ – to be carried out by a specialist Survey company) and archaeological conservation of the Tumbled Masonry, including the installation of geotextile membranes and backfilling and application of lime-based shelter coatRemoval of a high level (sagged) lead rainwater chute and replacement with a new stainless steel version (clad in Lead) to match the existing shape and profile, including for new stainless steel fixingsThe installation of new lightweight metal handrails to prevent access to the Middle Ward Wall-walk, including for the supply and installation of new signs
