NRM Railway Firsts Exhibition Design - AWARD

Descriptions

The Science Museum Group (SMG) is looking for a creative Lead Designer to work with on the 3D and 2D design for our forthcoming exhibition project, Railway Firsts at the National Railway Museum (NRM) in York and Locomotion (LCM). The Railway Firsts exhibition will consist of 20-30 pop up installations across NRM and LCM, recognising 'firsts' in the rail industry. From the first electric locomotive (1842 Galvani) to the first tunnel constructed by swarm robotics (2022 Hypertunnel). This exhibition will tell the story of railway firsts, using as its starting point the opening of the Stockton and Darlington Railway in 1825 as the most significant 'first' in railway history: the precursor to the birth of modern railways. The pop-ups will highlight some of the stars of the Science Museum Group's collection firsts before taking visitors on a journey of invention through the 19th and 20th centuries revealing surprising stories of the impact railways have had on our lives and our landscapes. It will culminate in the now, describing the ways in which railways today are evolving to meet the challenges of a new world.
