The Office of the First and Deputy First Minister has a requirement for a support service for victims and survivors of institutional abuse in Northern Ireland. This requirement has arisen from the Executive's decision to establish an Inquiry and Investigation into Historical Institutional Abuse in NI.The principal parts of the proposed service provision include:— a free 24 hour telephone crisis counselling / support helpline;— an initial counselling assessment and signposting to mainstream providers if required;— the development of proposals for establishing and managing a victim support group; and— the development, of proposals for an information network aimed at promoting the Support Service.
