Optical Coherence Tomography
Descriptions
The Institute for Condensed Matter and Complex Systems (ICMCS) within the School of Physics and Astronomy (SOPA) are looking to purchase a flexible OCT imagine system, allowing the end users to study several dynamic fluid systems that contain suspended particles. Optical Coherence Tomography is an established imaging technique used to see the retina at the back of the eye. Despite its great potential for viewing structures inside all sorts of opaque samples, it is relatively unused outside of ophthalmology. This equipment will bring a new imaging modality to the suite of techniques in COSMIC (Collaborative Optical Spectroscopy, Micromanipulation and Imaging Centre). It will be of interest to many scientists in ICMCS and beyond. Other short-term applications include imaging of skin and sun cream penetration, and the flow of molten wax to model volcanic lava flow.
