Pedigree Welsh Pig Society Project Management Services

Descriptions

The Pedigree Welsh Pig Society Ltd was established in October 2008 to represent and support breeders of Pedigree Welsh Pigs. The need for such a society was identified by The Welsh Pig Breeders Group which had become concerned that the Thoroughbred Welsh breed of pig was in danger of dying out if not protected. The Welsh breed of pig has been an indigenous breed for Wales for centuries. It is an easily managed commercial type of pig and was one of the 3 major breeds upon which the modern pig industry is built. However hybrid pig production by commercial pig breeders has produced a dramatic decline on the numbers of true Pedigree Welsh pigs. In 2005 The Welsh Breed was declared an endangered species and is now classified as a rare breed.Following the establishment of The Society the Project has continued to deliver against its prime objective of supporting, encouraging and promoting the development of the Pedigree Welsh Pig Breed. The overall objectives of the organisation are to:•co-ordinate, encourage and promote the development of the Pedigree Welsh Pig breed in the pig industry throughout Wales, the UK and the European Union including the development of the Pedigree Welsh Pig brand•improve the sustainability and eventual expansion of the breed by supporting and increasing Society membership•identify and facilitate co-operative supply chain initiatives amongst the society members•develop new skills associated with pedigree pigs within The Society and its Members. The Society aims to achieve some of these objectives through the mechanism of the Supply Chain Efficiencies Scheme Project that it has been awarded. Bidders are invited to submit an ITT to provide Project Management Services to support the delivery of The Society’s Project activities through the design, planning and implementation of a range of activities, particularly those that contribute to future sustainability of those activities. Further detail is provided in the ITT document (Ref ITTPMS0511).
